Students who plan to transfer to a four-year institution should check the requirements of that institution. If they are significantly different from the courses listed, students should consult with an advisor for academic guidance. Some art schools require portfolios for admission and financial aid consideration. HCC faculty are well-versed in these requirements and assist students in portfolio preparation. The MFA in Digital Arts program allows you to make the jump from traditional to digital media and equip yourself with the 2D and 3D art skills most relevant to today’s careers in games, animation, and other visual media production environments. You will also have opportunities to present your work in a variety of ways, including the Morlan Gallery, the Studio 300 Digital Art and Music Festival, student recitals and through exhibits in and around Lexington.
An official college transcript is required to assess if your courses are eligible for transfer towards your NVCC degree or certificate. Contact the respective college to request your official transcript or CollegeBoard.org to transfer AP credits. Transcripts are only considered official when received in the original sealed envelope. If you already have a degree in web design, information technology or graphic design or if you’re currently employed in a web-related field, the Multimedia/Web Authoring Certificate can be a great addition to your skill set. Well-rounded exposure to key components of Graphic Design are the basis of this program. Technological advances require constant training in the products used in creative design.
Emphasis on medium and large format cameras, studio techniques and darkroom printing. Continued exploration of personal vision with emphasis on social and cultural contexts for photography. Fundamentals of photography through the use of both analog and digital SLR cameras, black and white darkroom techniques, film scanning and digital printing.
Emphasis on development of technical and aesthetic skills, and the potential of the medium as a tool for artistic expression. The development of digital arts has challenged the long-standing tradition of individual genius specializing in individual media and makes collaborative and cross-disciplinary work practically inevitable. Free tutoring and writing assistance, help with technical issues, advisement on curriculum choices, personal and career counseling, and career placement assistance are all available to students currently enrolled at HGTC. An introduction to the history, tools and language of basic animation styles. This course will trace the history of experiments in animated imagery from 19th Century photography through 20th Century film into 21st Century digital works. The class will cover basic techniques in Photoshop, Adobe Premier, and illustration and animation software interfaces.
